SD Engineers

Brand identity and website for a vibrant young engineering practice built to illuminate their work and personality

Our work with SD Engineers began with a series of meetings and interviews designed to establish their point of difference in a hugely competitive field. One key observation from our meetings, in contrast to the wider industry, was the practice's  ‘can do’ attitude — an energy derived in part from the relative youth of the practice, and a stark  contrast to the engineering establishment.

The resulting identity is an exercise in reductivism, with a semi circle translated, rotated and scaled three times to spell out the practices name. The identity sits alongside one of five service descriptions neatly encapsulating the practice’s offer. A full guidelines document was produced allowing the in-house team to take the reins keeping communication elegant and on-brand.

Engineers often provide the hidden components of the built environment, their work hidden beneath an architectural facade. As a further key element of the project, the website was built to use design strategies to reveal the practices work. An exploded architectural model is controlled directly by the user as they scroll down on the home page of the site, immersing the user in practices work.
