Hugh Broughton Architects are internationally recognised for designing some of the world's most challenging and complex buildings, from Antarctic research stations and polar infrastructure to cultural institutions and sensitive heritage projects. Our objective was to create a website that reflected the practice's unique combination of technical expertise, environmental responsibility and architectural excellence.
The work of Hugh Broughton Architects is defined by a deep understanding of place, context and purpose. Whether designing in extreme climates or working within historic settings, each project demonstrates a thoughtful balance of innovation, sustainability and craft. The new website was designed to embody these qualities through a refined and understated digital experience that prioritises the work itself.
The visual language is deliberately restrained, allowing projects, imagery and storytelling to take centre stage. Generous white space, considered typography and a flexible editorial framework create a calm and confident experience, reflecting the practice's measured approach to architecture. Rich project pages combine photography, drawings, technical information and narrative to communicate both the ambition and complexity of the work.
A key focus of the project was improving the discoverability of the practice's diverse portfolio. While many visitors arrive seeking a specific project, we introduced pathways that encourage exploration across sectors, themes and locations. This enables users to uncover connections between projects and gain a deeper understanding of the breadth of the practice's expertise.
Alongside the portfolio, the website provides a platform for communicating the ideas, research and environmental thinking that underpin the practice's work. The result is a digital presence that not only showcases completed buildings, but also reflects the rigour, curiosity and long-term vision that define Hugh Broughton Architects.

A restrained typographic hand, set to frame the portfolio rather than compete with it.
The colour palette is inspired by the HBA portfolio, often inserting functionally bright coloured buildings into spartan environments.
