Grid are an architectural practice working on large-scale projects throughout the country, with a particular focus on buy-to-rent schemes. Their name is an ode to the rigorous approach to their work, and for us was a visual gift that gave us a very clear steer for how the identity could be developed. The project started with a series of interviews with members of the team and a handful of key clients to help us form a complete picture of the practice, i.e. what is it that makes Grid, Grid. One of the key notes from this exercise was the harmony between rigorous, meticulous methods and designing around the context of a space.
Coupling the learnings from our strategy with the gift of their name, we created a marque that has a subtle nod to the ideas of space and grids. The perfectly square leg of the 'G' in Grid stands alone, allowing the viewer to fill in the gaps themselves. The accompanying identity was underpinned by a rigorous grid, which is used playfully to offset content in a way that allows the viewer to understand the nature of the grid holding each piece together. The website we created took key notes from the brand identity, championing moving image which we commissioned and directed.
